The Bosch 3" x 24" Belt Sander is a great tool for finishing cabinetry, plywood, or other wood surfaces. A belt sander is a more aggressive sander than an orbital finishing sander and will sand wood much faster. Because of it's speed it is important to sand with the grain to eliminate cross scratches. A common misconception is that belt sanders can be used to remove varnish, paint, or other finishes. This is not true because the long contact surface of the moving belt creates heat and coatings tend to melt in and plug up the belts, making for a very expensive proposition. Disc sanders are better suited for fast removal of paints and varnishes while the orbital finishing sander is a great tool for final cleanup work.
